Stage: Feasibility Study

In July of 2013 Plymouth Community Homes were planning to transform the area around the Ernesettle shopping precinct on Hornchurch Road, Plymouth. Prior to community consultation PCH approached Crayon to prepare some ideas and visualisations that could be presented to the community at a consultation event held on the local recreation ground.

 

Crayon were engaged to prepare visuals based on two main areas of the site, including the north and south block. The south block was a later addition to the area built in around the 1970/80s on the former Ernesettle Methodist Church site.  Here Crayon looked at resurfacing the existing car park whilst including resident car parking bays, along with external recycling facilities and secure bicycle racks. The building itself would be upgraded using an external insulated render system with redecoration of the walkways with coloured acrylic panels. The north block construction in the late 1950s early 1960s would have a similar upgrade with the addition of a new feature colour perspex canopy. There would also be external treatment of the side stair access and provision of planting and bins along the raised terrace.

 

Housing Officer Adam Stockman said: “This is an opportunity to get the area looking nice. It gives people pride in their community. We’ve got the kids involved too – we’re asking the youth group to design a mural.”
