Daniel Atkins

Architect, BA (Hons), Dip.Arch, Dip.Humane, ARB

Daniel Atkins qualified as an architect in 2008 and has worked for a number of leading practices in the South West.

Daniel has been a part-time Associate Lecturer at the University of Plymouth since 2011, focusing on technical design and building physics. Students range from undergraduate BA Architecture to the postgraduate M.Arch course. As part of this role, Daniel enjoys researching innovative technologies, low energy design and human comfort. Much of this information feeds back into his work at Crayon.

Daniel is an enthusiastic and talented designer with an excellent record of achieving planning consents in challenging locations. Daniel has recently taken the lead on series of commissions to assess the feasibility of large-scale urban redevelopment schemes.

Having worked on several building sites since 2003, Daniel also has a keen understanding of how the practical issues of constructing a building can be incorporated during the design phase.

Andrea Atkins

Architect, BA (Hons), M.Arch, ARB, RIBA

Andrea has exceptional local knowledge of practicing architecture, having worked for both a small award winning practice in Tavistock and a large nationally recognised firm in Plymouth.

Andrea, who qualified as an architect in 2013, has a particular skill at helping clients produce a brief – outlining their hopes and ambitions at the outset. This is borne out of a genuine interest in how people live and interact within their everyday lives. Nurturing these activities, rather than focusing solely on appearance, then motivates the final design proposals.

Having studied Conservation as part of her postgraduate course, Andrea is adept at dealing with listed buildings, conservation areas and sites of historic importance. This is particularly useful in Devon and Cornwall, which contains within its boundaries some of the finest historic buildings in the country.

Andrea can also deal confidently with interior and landscape design, approaching schemes with ingenuity and vision. She is well organised and is in charge of the practices’ finances.
