This 1960’s detached dormer bungalow is located on a prominent corner plot within the World Heritage Site relating to Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape. Relatively recent additions and alterations have been unsympathetic given the character in the locality. The proposals sought to make a series of interventions to make more use of the magnificent sea views to the north, whilst maintaining the modest scale of the existing dwelling.

Significant internal alterations create a more open-plan layout with clearly defined areas for cooking, dining and living. A new double-height entrance hall allows natural daylight to penetrate the full depth of the plan, and allows sea views from a new galleried landing to access the first floor bedrooms. At the rear of the house, a new timber clad extension has large tri-fold doors to create a more natural link to the garden.
